High Performance SMTP Authentication In Mail Shield Gateway Antivirus Product

With the rapid development and pervading use of Internet, more and more computer viruses are now network-born, and Email has been the most efficient vehicle for viruses to spread all over the world.MSG offers a transparent, high-efficiency and low-risk way of Email virus detection and removal. But one thing should be considered: when the original Email server needs the clients to authenticate themselves (this is called SMTP authentication, and it is becoming a must to many of the ISPs), the deployment of MSG SHALL NOT break this authentication session between the client and server.The implementation of SMTP authentication in Mail Shield Gateway Antivirus product is addressed in this paper.The introduction of SMTP authentication comes first: the relevant standards and protocols. The kernel of our research work----AUTH RELAY----ensues.Secondly, the extension to SMTP authentication ----Multidomain Auth----is studied: the proposal for its implementation and for the transformation of auth information supplied by the Email client.As a part of one commercial product, the test result of our work is also presented.At the end , we make an outlook of the future development and modification to our work.
