It has important theoretical and practical meaning that linking AutoCAD to database. Huge potential capacity of computer - aided design (CAD) is not only as electric drawing system. If corresponding information of CAD drawing is linked to external database and electric intellectual files of users is constructed, we can make use of the bridge (model block or programmes) between AutoCAD and database to display and control change of drawing and database flexibly, correctly, dynamically and comcidentally.The research of linking drawing and database has been fashionable point. In this paper, I am going to make research into this problem and develop and constitute a scientific, convenient, flexible, inter-conjunctive and intellectual system integrating drawing and database.The research of structure integrating drawing and database concerns many questions. I focus on description of three major object model used in linking drawing and database (CAO object model, ADO object model and AutoCAD object model) and on their relationships. Mean-while, the theory> method and technology of development of structure integrating drawing and database have also been discussed here. Finally, this paper has given a brief explanation to method of use of integrating drawing and database having been made for users.This paper selects VBA as programming tool, VB language is selected to design the system. The writer have taken use of many new techniques in programming, many programmes are of model-style programming, so programmes having been made are read and understood easily and its model-blocks are made easily.Chapter I of this thesis discusses the background, aims content and significance with an emphasis on character-, some defects of and some improvement measures for Database-Connect used to connect drawing and database. Chapter II introduces knowledge and application of design of database,Database-Connect and VBA language and so on. Chapter III introduces three object models that are very important in connecting of databaseand drawing, including CAO object modeK ADO object model and AutoCAD object model. Chapter IV discusses principle and method of connecting of database and drawing with an emphasis on studying questions of integrating database and drawing under a specific environment and developing a practical example. Chapter V introduces individual model block of system having been developed in Chapter IV, programmes of the model block ^ tool of the programmes and method of use for the system .The research of system and principle integrating drawing and database has not only commercial value, but also academic value. I hope that I can let part of rented houses of Industrial Group of Wuhan University of Technology as background and make structure integrating drawing and database under this background as specific research object so as to provide some new meaning to the theory, concept and method.
