| With high development of information technology, HDTV(High Definition TV) gradually replaces analog television. During this transition stage, STB(Set Top Box) holds the balance.This paper particularly introduces the function , soft and hardware system structure of STB. It mostly studies software design based on ST HDTV resolvent (ST20+STi7000+STi4600) ,and all software based on STLite OS/20 real-time operating system. Based on reference software offered by ST corp., we develop software system which is the same with diverse hardware plate and provided with basal STB production function. At software arrangement, all topper applications are directly based on rock-bottom hardware drive, thus we use Clanguage to write application program.Software design includes the following: firstly STB part-bottom drive: including front-end drive, FLASH drive, the receiving software of the front board key-press and remote control signal. Secondly the storage of STB program: including the storage of program channel parameter, status messages of STB and user setup messages. Thirdly STB application: including the design and the display of Chinese UI and menu, the response and the manage of UI, menu and user alternant operation.
