Studies On Interlibrary Loan And Document Delivery In Networking Environment

Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Service (ILL&DD) is a routine activity with a long history in library. As the major and important form of resource sharing, studies on ILL&DD is becoming one of main focuses in library and information science. Since the later of 1990s, the fast development of networking environment has a dramatic impact on the management and the service of library. Library is shifting to the new networking environment with questions and challenge.First, the article makes a study on the history and the status quo of ILL&DD. After comparing ILL&DD service in traditional environment with in networking environment on service, management and technology, the author brings forward method to the networking environment.The study is also integrating practice. The author introduces the experience in the building of the interlibrary loan and document delivery service project of CSDL (the Chinese national Science and technology Digital Library). In final, the author gives his conclusion that ILL&DD service is a realization of the "S.R.Ranganathan's Five laws of Library science" and that the virtual information service system is in expectation with the ideas of cooperation and resource sharing.
