COM and CORBA are the leading technologies among many distributed objects. COM is the leading component object technology, namely under the Windows platform using COM and the third party developed components we can establish applications rapidly. And CORBA is the leading distributed component object technology, namely CORBA lays emphasis on remote procedure calling. The bridge component can connect the COM realm and CORBA realm, and convert the differences into complementary. This paper introduces the basic concepts of COM and CORBA in summary, and makes comparison in detail between COM and CORBA in respect to the basic architecture, the relationship to the OS, the developing method and the development environment and so on. As following, two components which are the CORBA server and COM server respectively are developed, and testified to get the performance discrepancy between them. This paper then analyses the COM/CORBA specification about the bridging at length. There are eight kinds of bridging models and three methods to realize the bridge. After that, several bridging components are developed and testified to get the output. The output is analyzed to compare the best kind of bridging component for the following application.Under the given application background, this paper makes an analysis about the major aspects of the old system at large, such as the functionality, the performance and the architecture and so on. Then sets forth two different kinds of solution and select one using the bridging component to realize the new system. The extended system was testified to be successful. During the creating of the new system an issue, how to determine the interface function granularity brought forth. The extended system consist of a server which will run under Linux platform, a client application which receive the customers input, a bridging component which connect the sever and client.
