Modern software development adopts engineering methodology to manage developing of software, it emphasizes on the software quality control and try to reduce the risk in software development by taking appropriate measures.Software Modeling is the fundamental work in software development, the emergence of Unified Modeling Language (UML) provides a unified method to model software of different type or scale. Based on this, The Unified software developing process (USDP) starts to emerge in the industry. USDP aims to unify the development process of different type or scale software. USDP provides the specific guidance on how to apply UML concept in software development. This paper has studied USDP and analyzed USDP architecture, researched its three unique characteristics: use case driven, software system architecture as core and development based on iteration and increment. This paper also researched USDP from the aspect of modern software project management, pointed out some possible issues, and made some improvement proposals. Finally, the author developed an E-Commerce software system for Anhui electric power company by using USDP.Main Contents of this paper are: Introduced the Unified Modeling Language (UML), illustrated its characteristi cs. Illustrated the architecture, lifecycle model and core workflows of USDP, researched its three unique characteristics. Discussed USDP from modern software project management point of view. Made Proposals for future improvement. Developed an E-Commerce software system for Anhui electric power company by Using USDP. Illustrated the adopted key technologies. Summarized the research and application of USDP, described the future outlook for USDP development.
