It is necessary to develop a new experimentation system to meet the need ofteaching completely because in teaching and leaming the course of principle ofcomPuter organization and design, experiment is absolutely necessary and theexperimental facility for this course offered in our market now cannot meet the demandvery we1l. This thesis is just about the research and design of such a newexperimentation system. By a number of system emu1ation and test, we assure that thenew developed system conform to comPuter operational principle and can satisfy our(modem) teaching demand comPletelyThe experimotation system is comPosed by software and hardWare. The paPerdescribes several kemel peds of the system in detail.hi the hardWare pat, we design the units of high-speed cache and pipeline, whichare absent in other similar products (in today's market). The cache on the aPparatus is aone-level cache that is size of 8 bytes. We test the experimentation system by fixed-quanity emu1ation with standard data, and the performance ana1ysis indicates thatwhen the size of circulatory prograxn segInent is smaller than the cache size, the cachehit rate is higher than 90%, while bigger than the cache size, the hit rate is betWeen 48%and 74%. Another imPortan unit is piPeline. The pipeline of the exPerimentationsystem is similar to that of 8086CPU, its data-path is seParated into tWo stages'Ihsthection fetch (ir) and Execution (EX). The paPer illustrates the operational modeand protoco1 of the pipeline. Fixed-quatity emu1ation with standard program provesthat the construct of the pipeline is with reason, and indicates that the average sPeeduPof the pipeline is 1. 12.In the software pari, the paPer i11ustTates the cornmwhcation protocol betWeen theuPper layer software and the experimenta1 facility, the design strategy of emulationprogram and dataflow disPlay module ---the kerne1 pwt of uPper layer software. On thebasis of operational principle of the hardWare cQmPonents, the emulator emu1ate theoperation of the experimenta1 facility and send the value to the uPper layer software.The dataflow display module is a graPhic interpreter. It interprets the microinsmiction.When a microinstfuction is interpreted, 1exical ana1ysis goes on first, then on the basisof lexical analysis, synax analysis proceeds. At last, combining the consequence oflexica1. synax analysis and the actual running result of the exPerimental facility theexperimentation system draw the dataflow chwt of the microprogram, and display thevahie of every hardWare comPonen.
