The "Ching-Hai-Tsung-Pao", starting to be published on 18 July 1893 and stopped at 25 Dec. 1895, is the first commercial newspaper in Macau. The "Ching-Hai-Tsung-Pao" shows us the economical and social development of Macau in the late Qing dynasty. Today, supposing we want to know what Macau is, it may be useful to recognize how the Macau first commercial newspaper was founded and what it reveals.Nowadays, Macau is the unique district in China where the gambling is allowed to be held. The history of gambling in Macau and the process of gambling legitimation draw many people's attention. After the 1887 Sino-Portugal Treaty, Portuguese formally took over the administration of Macau, such as the public traffic, post service, fire prevention, medical treatment and civil facilities, which made Macau become many-faceted because of the culture exchange. For all of these above we can find some clues in "Ching-Hai-Tsung-Pao". So, based on the "Ching-Hai-Tsung-Pao", this reseach quoted many original materials in order to revealed the different stages of Macau in the 19th century and to translate where does today's Macau come from.
