The Study On Localization Of CADDS5 And Applying EPD In Ship Building

Today, it's avoidless to apply CIMS technology to shipbuilding due to the more and more fierce international competition. Now realizing CIMS in Chinese shipbuilding face two major obstacles. The first one is the foreign CAD/CAM software is not efficiently used in our enterprises because the foreign criterions, workflows and etc. are different from ours. At the same time, we don't master the software develop technology to solve this problem. The second one is sharing and exchanging information among different stages of product lifecycle are difficult to achieve. Many departments have to input and output the same information repeatedly, and product information varying in its lifecycle. So it is hard to manage product information and make production process efficiently.The first part of this paper is about the localization of CADDS5, PTC's famous CAD/CAM product which is widely used in domestic shipbuilding enterprise. In this part CADDSS's data structure and process are analyzed, and CADDSS's develop methods are introduced. Then according to these works, the three CADDS5 localization projects of certain shipyard is described, including software for fabrication template of shell, relative coordinates input system in route pipes and ship 2-Dimension graphic label system.The second part of this paper analyzes and investigates the EPD (Electronic Product Definition) of shipbuilding. EPD is a whole new product definition method that integrates the user-created product model with product develop process and other important develop and business information, such as product structure, properties, MPR, product configuration and etc. The core of EPD is constructing a unique electronic model in the process from concept design to final product. Via analysis of EPD, this part of paper put forward the significance and process of EPD in shipbuilding, introduce the object oriented method and its tool in EPD, and discuss the shipbuilding product model in EPD.The software developed in this paper are already used in certain shipyard, and work well. This paper does some basic research on shipbuilding CIMS system. It can be forecasted that the result of research will promote CIMS to shipbuilding enterprises.
