The Application Of XML In Enterprise Information Integration

An overview of the development of Product Data Management (PDM)and the status of XML (extensible Markup Language) are given in this article firstly. Then the author put forward a thought that PDM is regarded as the frame of enterprise information integration and the XML is applied into enterprise information integration.Then the article gives a brief account of the related contents of PDM ,such as origination, development, function and perspective, and the related standard of XML, for example, DTD (Document Type Definition ), Schema, XSL (extensible Stylesheet Language) andXLL (XML Link Language) .In the Process of enterprise information integration, STEP is taken in the modeling of enterprise product data and the representation of product. So the related content of STEP has been presented in details, as well as the related content of EXPRESS language which is used to product information modeling has been done. The new standard and new technology of the combination of XML and STEP also have been introduced in details in this article. The schema which is represented by EXPRESS language is mapped into XML DTD/Schema so as to bring about the XML implementation methods of STEP standard.XML has a great advantage in the domain of data exchanging. This article represents the relation of XML and database, the selection of XML transmission protocols and the transmission security of XML.After researching the standard of IS010303 and XML , PDM is selected as the frame of enterprise information integration .Then a new assumption of three-layer structure based on XML is described which is about the basic structure of PDM. The author gives a new model based on XML and STEP to solve the information integration of PDM between different enterprises. Meanwhile, as a sharing information model, the Feature Markup Language (FML) which is a language describing the features of enterprise product is suggested to implement the real enterprise information integration and real synergetic cooperation inside enterprise or between enterprises.At last, a small instance is given to display the great capability of XML in the domain of representing product information feature.
