The telecommunication companies are expanding day by day with having more subscribers to the communication services ranging from wire line to wireless devices. The companies have being expanding to have many branches in one region and covering all cities in the country. Despite the rapid growth the company functionalities are run in small discrete programs that can not be integrated with other programs and can not expose functions to be accessed elsewhere. And so there is a need of having an information system, easy to be deployed and maintained that will integrate the company divisions, handle the company staff and customers and extend the company functionalities to an interface that can easily be accessed by all users from different areas. This research project, study, design and build the information system based on the Internet technology to stretch functionalities of the telecommunication company to be accessed on a browser. The system is composed of three main parts namely, the server, the application and the browser. The server part has tasks such as checking the data integrity, storing and retrieving the data. The application part processes the information, holds the company policy, contains security features, identifies users, dynamically generates interfaces and allows the interaction with the server. The browser part makes sure the data is formatted for presentation to the user interface, preprocess the data inputs and it also provides theinterface to be used for data collection from the user. The complete paradigm is based on the browser/server architecture. The system is characterized with being able to identify users and dynamically provide them with respective interface. The interface contains equivalent buttons for one to perform tasks on the system. Each user based on the h/his status will be able to perform the designated tasks. The user status is based on the company policy on accessing the online information system. Only the appropriate person can use the extended company functionalities. The browser provides the working ground that enable/disable or hide/unhide features that can be used by users with different levels on status. The COM (Component Object Model) components are used to write objects that are instantiated and run in the ASP (Active Server Pages). The ASP scripting, which runs on IIS dynamically produce results that are written to the HTML to be sent and read by the browser. The SQL server stores the data and is accessed through ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) interface that interacts with COM components. The use of browser/server architecture as opposed to the client/server architecture quickens the deployment of the system and is easier to upgrade and maintain. It's the architecture that is relatively cheaper and yet is flexible to handle ever-changing requirements. The ongoing researches on Internet security will enable the system to process highly security dependant applications.
