How to get multi-channel spectrometric data with high efficiency is an important issue in nuclear data acquisition field. Due to the continuous efforts of utilizing the new achievements of electronics, such as the low power integration circuits, the programmable devices and the new MCU, rapid progress has been made in the area of nuclear data acquisition. Along with the fast development of computer technology, now PCs(personal computer) are powerful of processing data. Many works completed by the middle or small size computers not long ago, now can be done by PC computer. The PC control the MCA to transfer the nuclear data to PC through the computer interface, then the PC process the data with real time feature. All these new progresses benefit the study of portable gamma-ray data acquisition system.This paper is based on the study of normal MCA data acquisition system. Further more, we focus on the design of portable gamma-ray data acquisition system with low power, real time and high efficiency features.There are some characteristic compared with existing gamma-ray data acquisition system:(1) A MCU+PSD two chips embedded system is used to control the whole system. Also we use the PSD to realize ISP(In-System Programmabillity). The design is simple and easy to fulfill.(2) Some newly developed low power integration devices are used. Besides, other low power designs are realized. All these efforts have effectively reduced the power of the system, which do good to portable instrument to develop field measurement.(3) A high speed serial port communication design is realized successfully, including the hardware and software.(4) It has succeeded in the technology of a computer spectrum-stabilizing method to solve drift problems in automatic analysis of gamma-ray spectrum.The study of portable gamma-ray data acquisition system is successful. I am sure that this system will do important jobs in related areas.
