Abstract This is a part of the major scientific research sub-project in the ninth five-year plan. The software of shape meter computer automatic control system plays very important role in development of the shape meter closed-loop control system. This article is based on the differential output shape meter of magnetoelastic transformer for cold rolling strip developed by cooperator. The design of hardware construction and the development of software for Windows for the shape meter computer control are mainly described. The primary approach for the shape meter closed-loop control system is also included. The mathematical models such as standard strip shape model, initialization rolling value model, and adjusting model are determined based on the research of their features and calculations. The algorithms for these mathematical models are also presented. Besides the design of the hardware construction for shape meter, the software system written in Visual Basic 6.0 is also developed. The real-time data acquisition and conversion system worked in interrupt mode is accomplished by means of loading Dynamic Linkage Library of PCL-812PG enhanced multi-lab card. The converted data processing will be operated then, for example, scale operation, comparison, graphic display, data storage, etc. The adjusting values for the shape control are also calculated in it. The research effort offers favorable condition for future research of the shape meter closed-loop computer control system. Stress signal generator which can generate the voltage signal similar with rolling tension stress signal is be designed. With the signal generator, testing shape meter control system will be very convenient and its development cycle will be significantly shorten. This research effort may be used in either technological innovation for existing cold rolling mill or the design of the new cold rolling mill. It has a good prospect and is worth to be spread. Its level attains 90th world levels.
