| Yujiaxi(1884-1955)is a famous documentationer in contemporary history of China, devoted all his life to teaching and academic research .His famous works , such as A STUDY of BIBLIOGRAPHY ,A DISTINGISH TO FOUR STORROOM BOOKS ABSTRACT ,THE NOTES AND COMMENTARIES OF Sill SHUO XIN YU ,THE STYLISTIC RULES AND LAYOUT OF ANCIENT BOOKS,A COLLECTION OF YU JIAXI HISTORY PAPER ,covered a wide field. He made remarkable achievements in various fields ,such as what he did left behind a large amount of precious cultural wealth However , research on him in the past mostly was focused on his contribution in bibliography ,seldom in documentation .In fact ,documentation included a lot of branch of learning ,such as, bibliography, edition, textual criticism ,textual research etc .Research on him at point of view of documentation ,is helpful not only to appraise him objectively ,but also to absorb and utilize the cultural wealth he left and to promote the development of documentation .Because Mr Yu's achievemenìs on documentation facused on Bibliography ,for this reason ,this paper attempted to study his view in this fieldIn the field of Bibliography, Mr Yu inherited ancient person's study achievements and brought forth his new idea . He researthed Bibliography from the whole course of history culture development. On the basis of comprehensive summing-up predecessor's idea , he probed into the relationship of Bibliogrphy and academic historyand critically assimilated Zhengqiao and Zhang Xuecheng thoughts.At the same time,he inherited and developed the traditional thinking of "distinguish academic faction,inspect acedemic origin and development".He draw a conclusion that the Bibliopgraphy's significance is to narrate academic origin and development. According to Bibliography system ,he creatively divided catalogue3into three types the type preface and abstract, the type praface but no abstract, the type no preface and abstract. He respectively pointed out these academic faction. He directed Bibliography's four styles, such as catalogue ,abstrat ,preface,edition and preface. He also made a detailed illustration on these four style's function and edition, especially for the function of edition and preface which people didn't pay attention to ,and then he pointed out his respective views .He also probed detailed intothe origin of Bibliography and the historical development course of catalogue classification, and raised some new views. He emphasized that catalogue classification should do some corresponding adjustment according to the changes of books itself and academic development. Classification should have itself age feature. It seemed that his view was more advance than science scholar of the same times. According to the experience summed up from our predecessors and his own , Mr Yu put forward that catalogue have six function in academic history ,which mainly embodied in identifying true or false ,compilation,etc . He drawed a conclusion that catalogue was equal to academic history .His theory exerted a great influence to successors and bibliography theory,and formed a style of his own theory which had significant position in bibliography history.In the field of textual research ,Mr Yu also acquired uncommon achievements.
