This paper mainly studies AON(All Optical Network) adaptation layer technology and blocking probability of wavelength-routing networks. After brief introduction international development, the author summarizes key technologies of AON. Then a thorough study of AON adaptation layer technology is made to deal with the main problems of the JP/Ethernet/WDM architecture. Using simplified SDH frame to early Ethernet data, the physical layer can be monitored and managed, which makes the long-distance reliable transmission Ethernet frame possible. Two feasible methods are designed. In addition, a new universal analysis method, based on the link independence assumption, is presented to study the blocking probability in wavelength-routing networks with partial wavelength conversion. Computer simulation and theoretical calculation show that wavelength converter can lower the blocking probability of AON. Once rationally configured, the performance of partial wavelength conversion network approaches to that of complete wavelength conversion network.
