As the Internet traffic grows very fast, the transparent and efficient all-optical network is the developing object of broadband communication network. And optical switching technologies play an important role in all-optical network. Optical burst switching as a technical compromise, which takes in the advantages of optical circuit switching and optical packet switching while avoiding their shortcomings, has a medium switching granularity and a single-way reservation signaling protocol, it's very likely to become an technology for commercial use. It's not feasible to equip each node with a full wavelength converter in an OBS network due to the immature technologies and high costs of the optical devices. As a result, it's of great practical value to do research upon the OBS networks with limited wavelength conversion capability. The major work in this thesis is focusing on the wavelength assignment strategies in the OBS network with Limited Wavelength Conversion Capabilities. The signaling protocol and wavelength assignment algorithm are relative comprehensively and profoundly analyzed. Then we put forward an new wavelength assignment algorithm .In this thesis, we do a comprehensive analysis in various traditional wavelength assignment algorithms together with their features, and put forward a new distributed, adaptive wavelength assignment algorithm, named the Priority-based Wavelength Assignment-leg algorithm. Combined with Contention-based Limited Signaling Protocol, a signaling protocol that retrieves more data bursts than traditional signaling protocols, our algorithm can promise a lower overall network burst loss rate.
