It is expected that wavelength-division-multiplexed networks would be the backbone networks in the future because of its advantages. Wavelength routing network is a kind of WDM network that routes by wavelength. Due to the application of the WDM technology, wavelength routing network have several times of capacity as normal single wavelength network, and with routing by wavelength, the efficiency of lightwave in such network is mush higher than that in broadcast-select network. So it is necessary to research the routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) algorithms in wavelength routing network.A key issue in networks design is to optimize Routing and Wavelength Assignment for lightpaths. RWA sloves how to find out an appropriate lightpath and assign a wavelength reasonably in order to make full use of the limited resource and provide communication capability as large as possible.
