Along with the rapid rising of "the 4th Media" based on Internet,net-editor,a new occupation,emerges as the times required.This thesis probes into thefunctions of its social role,and tries to point out the kernel of its functions andcapabilities.The thesis mainly includes four parts of charters.The development processof the net media is introduced briefly in first chapter where the main backgroundof the appearance of net-editor as a brand-new occupation is described.From the point of view of technology,in the 2nd chapter this thesis narratessome characteristics of the communication through the new media and,based onthis,explains that the appearance of net-editor accords with the actualdevelopment of commnicational technologies.This is the elementary reason forthe existence of this occupation.The author points out in 3rd chapter that due to these new characteristics ofthe net media,a certain number of contradictions and problems inevitably appearduring the practice of news-communication.As a "Gatekeeper",news-editorshould play his roles accordingly.The significance of this new occupationbecomes more profound when facing those contradictions and problems inpractice."Gatekeeper" still exists in era of Internet,and net communicationrequires "Gatekeeper".Thus the author brings forward the requests of the net-editor's functionalcapabilities in 4th chapter,and tries to elucidate that the kernel of the capabilitiesis that the "Gatekeeper" in Internet should well utilize the technology,which iscalled "Two-Edged-Sword", and only in this way can we fully concern forhumanities.Our cognition on this new occupation wi1l ascend to a certainphilosophical level,and we can comprehend the occupation and communicationalpurpose more profoundly.
