Flywheel energy storage system(FESS) can be used as electric vehicle, UPS, power system stabilization device, etc. Based on massive investigation, this dissertation presents analyses and researches of the structure, operation mode and control methods of FESS. For the high- speed motor in FESS should have characteristics of both high efficient motor and high efficient generator, this dissertation compares axially- laminated anisotropic (ALA) rotor reluctance generator with others and demonstrates that ALA rotor synchronous reluctance motor/alternator for FESS is available and advantageous. After parameters are designed, system model is built and digital simulation is made. The simulation shows that the course of building up voltage is affected by direct inductance, quadrature inductance and excitation capacitor. The simulation also shows that the output voltage is approximately invariable through thinking about saturation of direct- axis flux.
