With the rapid economic development and all-round social progress of our country in recent years, the social demand of high-level personnel has increased enormously. What's more, as an outcome of the recruitment expansion of universities, the training of postgraduates, which is used to be treated as an advanced part of education, is rapidly increasing on a yearly basis. Though it means that more undergraduate students will have opportunities to receive further education, the expansion of university has also brought some discomforting consequences, for example, alarming decline in the quality of postgraduate education, unquenchable difficulties of students in getting a job and so on. Then how can universities ensure the quality of the education they offered in such a transforming time? The most fundamental and effective way is to enhance the qualities of our tutors since only the finest tutors can develop excellent students. As a world's largest educative nation, Japan has paid more attention to improving the quality of their postgraduate education, especially from the 90's of last century. In order to build up the ranks of tutors and improve their professional ethics and competence, the Japanese government has embarked on a massive program of reform in the field of education. While drawing on a mass of experiences of occident education, the Japanese also retain many fine eastern cultures and their own traditions. Therefore, the educational system of Japan is characteristic and deserves care analysis. This article proceeds from the actual status of the tutorial systems of China and Japan. Based on the comparisons of some aspects of these two countries'postgraduate training systems, for instance, the retaining system, the training pattern, the evaluating system, the division of responsibilities and so on, this research has pointed out some differences between these two countries in this field and also has indicated some deficiencies of our tutorial system. Hope this research can provide a scientific basis for continuous improvement of our country's postgraduate education system.
