Now, the cost of higher education for their children has become a major expenditure, which is a relatively heavy burden in relation to the economic capacity of poor families. Meanwhile, the poor families hold a higher expected benefit from their children to improve the family's social status.This study is based on the survey data about Yunnan Province Chuxiong 78 poor families. This paper studied the children of poor families to invest in and benefit from higher education, analysis of higher education in poverty-stricken families are facing the choice of behavior, proposed the principle of rational choice. Rational choice of higher education is important to reduce the gap between input and benefit,the rational choice can more effectively help the poor families through investment in education to improve their economic conditions and social status.This study proposes the following four proposals in order to help poor families to choose the higher education.First,construct the fair information environment. Second, poor families adjust the expected benefits of higher education.Third, poor families adjust the expenditure of higher education.. Fourth, poor families expand the educational choices through a variety of ways.Fifth,the government,college and poor families interaction, enhance their Employment capacity and entrepreneurial capacity.This paper consists of four parts. The first chapter defines the key concepts relevant to the study, this paper aims to solve the main problems, research methods and literature review. The second chapter is a data analysis about poverty-stricken families in Yunnan Province Chuxiong, Objectively recorded the poor families' choice behavior in their children to receive higher education. Chapter III for the findings of theoretical analysis, include the spending and the benefit, proposed the basic criteria of rational choice, and analyzes the impact of poor families of rational choice. Chapter IV sets out to promote rational choice of higher education in poverty-stricken families proposals and responses in order to contribute more effectively to poor families through the family investment in education to change their present situation.
