The mode split model is one of key modals of the traffic planning. The transportation mode split is an important basis for the government to establish transportation planning and policy. It would impact on the urban residential trip efficiency. The purpose of this paper is to establish activity-based urban residential transportation mode choice mode. The literature on disaggregate mode choice models is vast, but the model in this paper is a disaggregate one, which predicts the mode choices of individual trip-makers.The main contents of this paper includes as follows:At first, this paper introduces transportation modes' characteristic and the classification of transportation mode. Then, in consideration of the need to establish transportation mode choice model, based on the analysis of transportation mode characteristic, it attempt to classify the transportation mode according to a new method. It also analyzes the effect factors to urban residential transportation mode choice. Then, this paper makes a detailed discussion to activity-based travel theory, and analyzes urban residential travel characteristic.Next, based on maximum utility theory, this paper introduces the basic theory, model frame, estimation method and calculation method of several disaggregate models, such as MNL, NL model etc. It makes a comparison between Logit model and Probit model, aggregate model and disaggregate model. In the end, according to the activity-based urban residential travel theory, it establishes a disaggregate model of urban residential travel mode choice, and put it in use by a calculation example. The particularity of this paper is that the model is activity-based and trip chain-based, by analyzing various transportation modes' characteristics and the influence factors to residential transportation mode choice, it makes the model imitate the city residents' to go way choice behavior possibly.
