General education is one of the ideals of university education. The implement of education depends on curriculums, general education is not an exception. With the development of Higher education, the reformation about general education becomes the one of the most important problems of curriculum system. So, as a mode which can actualize general education, many universities want to innovating general education curriculums.The general education originated from American, especially the liberal arts college which is actualized the general education, the general education curriculums are very special and the curriculum content is very various. Therefore, we need to summarize the successful experience of both the liberal arts college in general education with an aim to adjust and reconstruct the system of general education curriculums in Chinese universities. The author applies the methods of comparison and analysis in the general education curriculum in the liberal arts college which does used to promote the development of general education curriculum in our nation.The article is divided into five branches. In the first chapter, the article explains the reasons why select general education curriculum in liberal arts college for doing research and introduces the research methods as well as the main concepts. In the second chapter, the author elaborates the situation about the general education curriculum in Liberal Arts College. Firstly, it elaborates the History of the liberal arts college, the education ideals about Liberal Arts College and the characteristic about the liberal arts college. Secondly, the chapter introduce the meaning of curriculum and general education curriculum .In the third chapter it introduces some education ideal and types of American liberal arts colleges' general education curriculum. The article believes the general education curriculum has a close relationship with Liberal Arts College's education philosophy. In the forth chapter, the article introduces Amherst College, Pomona College, Peking University and Heilongjiang University for case study, which emphasizes the general curriculum's mission, aim and content and so on. The article tries to analysis the differences about general education curriculum between the liberal arts college and our university. In the fifth chapter, the article analyzes the consultation and enlightenment that our country's universities can draw from the liberal arts colleges' general education curriculum.The article consider the general curriculum in liberal arts college have many successful experience, for example mature general curriculum system, curriculum content and the relationship with professional education. Yet the general curriculum is faced with many problems, some problems from outside and some problems from inside in our nation. So we should according diverse universities to take different strategies.
