The correlation between criticism and teaching is dependent on the relation between criticism and education. Criticism is a type of education and it also serves as the important quality for teachers and the significant area in curriculum research. As far as the present research reality is concerned, a great number of researchers have been aware of the significance of the criticism in education and teaching. However, their views on criticism are so scattered that they fail to act as solid guidelines in teaching practices because of lacking of the clear expression of critical teaching, the rarity in its structures and the practical conditions. This paper is mainly designed to clarify the definition of critical teaching, based on which the basic structures, values and practical conditions of the critical teaching is brought to light.Starting with the theoretical backgrounds of the critical teaching, namely, the critical education theory, the critical curriculum theory, the critical theory for teachers and the alienation of teaching theory, this paper provides the definition and characteristics of criticism so as to reach authentic understanding of the critical teaching. Based on this, the structures of the critical teaching are studied according to the teaching structures. The following issues are included in this part: the target to be criticized in teaching; the critics responsible for teaching criticism; the tools by which to conduct criticism and the mode for criticism. The values of the critical teaching, taking the characteristics as the breakthrough point, are connected with both the traditional and the reformed teachings in order to show the importance they exert in revealing the teaching realities, ridding of the teaching misunderstandings and strengthening criticism. The practical conditions of the critical teaching are under discussion from the perspectives of the teaching concept, teaching resources and the critical enthusiasm and critical ability of teaching subjects.Oriented to liberation interest, the critical teaching attaches great importance on both the teachers and the students as"human beings", on the basis of which it criticizes the alienation of teaching and gets rid of the misunderstandings in teaching and fosters appropriate understanding in teaching with a view to liberating both the teachers and students and returning the teaching to its purity. The critical teaching is characterized with reasonability, sociability, reality and with the purpose to wipe out the misunderstandings in teaching. As a teaching type, the critical teaching automatically has its own modle. The critical teaching, by means of dialogues, adopts the method of raising questions to understand things from a number of perspectives circling the theme so as to find answers to questions say no to or enrich people's existing opinions. Moreover, it has its own significance and functions since it unveils the truth in teaching and fosters the students'judging awareness and liberates the teachers and the students. The idea of the critical teaching can be put into practice only if the internal and external conditions are taken into consideration. The internal conditions are related to all the teaching factors and even connected to the relations among these factors which are under consideration while the external conditions chiefly rely on the change of the education purpose and teaching concept. |
