Taking very own teaching experience at Memorial High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, U.S.A. as the research base, this paper has studied the curriculum design and implementation in American public high schools through database research, interview, observation and case analysis, etc.. The history of American education and its current development have been introduced briefly in the paper. Curriculum, curriculum design and implementation, as the theoretical basis of the study, also have been covered in the process, along with the three levels of educational institutions, state education department, school district and individual school. After presenting the general aspects of the public education, Memorial High School was taken as the actual example to reveal the curriculum design and implementation. This paper finally concludes that there is a distinct curriculum system in American public high schools, it is designed quite comprehensively and connected with daily life all the way round, furthermore, the curriculum from elementary to high schools and even universities appears very good consistency; meanwhile, the implementation of curriculum focuses on training basic life skills and living capacity, aims at bring up healthy and bright global citizens, it is always highly encouraged of doing it yourself and independent completeness at the process of learning. In the end, the paper objectively presents the advantages and disadvantages of its education. Based on the principle of learning for good and the current education situation in China, it brings forwards the thoughts of thinking about educational notion in-depth, strengthening the effect of curriculum design, and developing the potential of its implementation, etc.
