Preschool children can often be observed engaging in private speech.From 1920s,this phenomenon started to receive extensive attention ,which focused on private speech's origin,function,influence factors,and so on,from psychologists. Several limitations and gaps in research literature to date on children's private speech are notable.First of all,.the vast majority of studies on contextual variation in children's private speech have been conducted in laboratory settings, given that private speech is known to be quite sensitive to the setting, that speech use in the lab may not generalize well to natural settings;The second,the phenomenon of private speech from children aged non 3-7 is neglected by researchers.Vygtsky forecasted 2-3 years-old should be sprouting period of private speech.But what is the true face of the phenonmenon of the 2-3 years-old children.Our studies try to solute this question.The paper consists of three parts:The first part:research method.To make the result infinitely approach the reality,Our studies use Qualitative method.we collected original datas of private speech from 2-3 years-old childr-en through the way of participatory observation continued two months of five 2-3 years-old children in kindergarten and open-end interviews to teachers,bui-lt code when data entry by pre-built type combined inductive type,analysed data employing analysis merging categorization with situation analysis.The second part:the results of research.the types of private speech from 2-3 years-old children contains:word play,utterances in fantasy play,emotional expressions,self-directed utterance,imitation,and othersthe functions of private speech contains:linguistic acquisition,self-regulation,improving social skill;The type of activity,the temperamental characteristics of children,teachers's intervention may effect usage of private speech. The third part:conclusion and suggestions.Through compared with previous research findings, we presumed:2-3 years-old may be sprouting period of self-regulating private speech,and the reas-on of private speech should melt Piaget's view-inadequacy of personal socialization with Vygotsgy's view-inadequacy of social individual.Finally,we give teachers three educational suggestions: Know private speech correctly;use children's private speech not only as a useful window for observing what is going on inside the child's developing mind,but also as a valuable indicator and a approach for Scaffolding。...
