Private speeches of the children are commonly seeing in free play of the kindergartens. Using qualitative research methods such as observation and interview, this thesis studies the existing state of the kindergartens' private speech in details during free play, and on the basis of which the features and meanings of young children's private speech are analyzed.As to the part of the existing state, the researcher presents the information of private speech like content, form and function. The researcher finds that the content can be classified into two types: the private speech relative to play and the private speech irrelative to play. The form can be classified into two types: the fragmented form and the continual form. The form of the children's private speech can be classified into four types by private speech's statement: declarative form, excalmatory form, interrogative form and imperative form.The function of the children's private speech presents instrumental function,personal function, imaginative function,heuriatic function and informative function in the aspect of the language function. The function of the children's private speech presents self- exercise function,self-regulate function and self-express function in the aspect of self-development.When the feature of the private speech is analyzed,the researcher finds that the children usually use private speech with others' existence nearby,the imaginative speech accounts for the most part in the content of the private speech, and the content of the private speech have many resources, in which the cartoon deeply affects the children's private speech.Besides,the meaning of the private speech is analyzed, the result is that the private speech shows the level of language development and promotes its development;the private speech promotes the thinking developing as the thinking tool;the private speech makes the play more affluent as the play's materials and tools; moreover the private speech shows the advanced oral culture of the children and makes the personal culture become group culture.Finally,the researcher discusses the cause of the private speech,the influence of the private speech and the attitude to it. The researcher thinks that the private speech occurs out of needs, which is the need to express and the need to self-guide; the private speech affects the others and the room circumstance,its influence to the others is good and its influence to the room circumstance can be controlled.Because the private speech is the nature of chilaren and plays important part in children's development, firstly we must change the concept of the private speech, secondly to support the private speech and at last to know children through their private speech.
