| Zuo Zongtang a well-known figure in Chinese modern history, is a high-ranking officer in the late Qing Dynasty. He had so many achievements in the politics, economic, military and education, and also the impact on social process was considerable. although he should not be named as a sport, but he had his own independent views in sports out of the needs in military and education.The author intend to consider Zongtang as the research object, using the ways of literature research, field surveys, expert interviews and logical reasoning and so on, concluding Zongtang's words and deeds into sports, reproducting the causes and cognitive profile of its sports, aims to improve the current historical research on the Zongtang.The paper is describing mainly through four parts. The first part named "Introduction" is analysing the background and significance. The second part named "Zuo Zongtang's Sports ideological causes" is through a large number of relevant documents to trace its source, obtaining Zongtang Sports ideological causes can be summarized as the four division factors-----.the social, cultural, family and friends. The Part III named " analysis of Zongtang's sports thinking ", by collating datas on the literature, its sports thinking can be summed up as sports health, sports talent, military sports concept, the sports concept for the nation. Part IV named "Zongtang's historical role in sports," Zongtang's sports thinking has important role in promoting the modern military development, modern education development and the development of family education in modern times. limitations of physical thinking is mainly in the inadequate understanding of the nature sports, and sports purposes due to loyalty, sports means too much the main static and sports features such as failure to open up .
