Since 1978, the class for Olympic competition as a mode of extraordinary education trains a great number of first-class personnel for our country. However, many problems exist in its setting-up and implementation. For instance, students in such class are generally found difficult in interpersonal communication, behave strangely, or even suffer from the psychological disease to alarming extent. Multiple Intelligences (MI) Theory, which points out that human intelligence is composed of eight types and people differ in the combinations of these different intelligences, provides us with a new perspective to assess the students and to help them achieve the all-round development in a new way. In view of those students' problems and the new interpretation of the talents cultivation on the basis of MI Theory, the writer tries to design and carry out the chemistry teaching in the first grade of senior high school under the guidance of MI Theory, which is intended to provide us with a new thought of the teaching modes and education in the class for Olympic competition. This thesis consists of five parts. In the first part, it illustrates the supporting theory of this research subject and its significance. In the second part, it introduces the MI theory, including the basic contents, the status quo and the development. In the third part, it elaborates the preliminary research preparations for the subject, including surveys of students' knowledge, psychological condition as well as the distribution of multiple intelligences. In the fourth part, it presents the chemistry teaching designs and procedures under the guidance of MI Theory in the class for Olympic competition in Grade One of the senior high school, which includes the ideas of instructional designs, the analysis of learners and the teaching objectives, curriculum integration, the designs for teaching strategies and multi-evaluation.In the last part, it expounds the whole research process through a specific case analysis. By evaluating the research results, it draws the conclusion, promotes feasible suggestions and reflects on the research inadequateness. Through the analysis of relevant materials and data collected in the practical research, it is proved that the Mi-based teaching in chemistry class for Olympic competition could develop the students' multiple intelligences, especially on the improvement of interpersonal intelligence.
