Physical education reform concerning the training of students' physical movement abilities, the development of students' personalities, and the fostering of the lifelong habit of doing physical sports substantially flourished from the late 1980s to 1990s. The guiding principles of schools' physical education have gradually transformed from 'sole-biological physical education concept' to 'three-dimension physical education concept' consisting of biological, psychological and sociological factors, which broadens the functions of physical culture in the aspects of gymnastics, recreations, athletics, culture and society. Therefore, the research of various new teaching modes of physical education begins to rise.As a complement of in-class teaching, 'Experience Study' is an indispensable teaching mode of modern education. To be regretful, physical education, which is characterized by its practice and most corresponds to Experience Study, hasn't attached enough importance to this kind of teaching mode. Although the new Physical Training Curriculum Criterion passed in 2000 has set some learning scope objects, such as 'psychological health' and 'social adaptation', there isn't any content of how to achieve the objects and related assessment standards. Therefore, the study of a new physical teaching mode still shoulders heavy responsibilities. Starting from expanding training~the origin of Experience Teaching Mode, this essay analyzes its historical origin and theoretical foundation by using the research methods of literature view and logic reasoning. What's more, from the 'Four Elements' of a teaching mode—theoretical foundation, teaching process, teaching conditions and teaching assessment, this essay tries to explore the inspiration of expanding training towards the research of a new physical teaching mode.After careful analysis, this essay draws the following conclusions: Current teaching modes of physical education in Chinese colleges and universities have many maladies, such as ambiguous value concept, sole function, non-distinctive features and impertinent relationship among the modes, and strong theoretical base while weak manipulation of them.The liberalistic value concept rooted in the expanding training and the constructive theory of knowledge can be used for reference to the teaching modes of physical education in the colleges and universities of our country.In the transformation of teaching modes of physical education in Chinese colleges and universities, we should bravely reform the current teaching organizational forms, teaching strategies, teaching conditions and teaching assessment means, and re -recognize the function and status of teachers which is worthwhile.Inspired by the expanding training, the essay concludes that the reform of the teaching modes of physical education in the colleges and universities of our country can be carried out from the following aspects: liberating ideas and accelerating the transformation of the guiding principles of schools' physical education; expanding the diversity of its teaching goals; editing its teaching materials under the principle of cultivating abilities, paying attention to the need of the individuals, and combining national culture; attaching great importance to the democratic cooperation between teachers and students in the course of teaching; unifying the diversities of teaching objects and those of teaching modes; and promoting the breakthrough of teaching assessment in physical education.
