General Technology Curriculum (GTC), as a new national curriculum, has been formed during the recent curriculum reform of high school, and the objective of GTC is not only to elevate technological literacy but also to promote comprehensive and personalized development of all students. In autumn 2008, high schools in Beijing City initiated GTC, however, as no GTC major presented in normal university now, the vast majority of GTC teachers were coming from other non-GTC majors. For the reason that teachers play the key role in teaching and learning activities, the implementation of GTC will be largely affected by the understanding of basic theories, the recognition of status quo, the awareness of professional development, and the technological literacy level of GTC faculty. Consequently, to figure out the current situation of GTC teachers, especially at this initial phase, holds obvious advantages in facilitating the impartment of GTC in Beijing. This research is a sub-project of the special project sponsored by the Municipal Education Commission of Beijing--"Survey and Case Study on the Status Quo and Implementation of General Technology Curriculum,"in which the spectrum of GTC teachers involves the whole city of Beijing and the Project Management Theory was also employed as an attempt in the field of educational research. During the first period of study, the content and scope was determined by using the Project Scope Management Theory, and the research work was allocated by using the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) theory, upon which WBS structure has been established accordingly. The following six chapters in total compose this thesis.Chapter 1 discusses why the issue is raised, the main content, the significance of study, and the reasoning line of research.Chapter 2 reviews basic theories of technology teachers in the K-12 education domestic and abroad, studies the structure and content of teacher professional competence, defines the concepts of GTC, GTC teacher, and GTC teacher's technological literacy, and sets up a triangle model of GTC teacher's technological literacy.Chapter 3 describes the research process based on the Project Management Theory, clarifies the content scope of the survey and the establishment of WBS, and elaborates the design of the questionnaire, conducting procedure and the methodology of data processing and analysis.Chapter 4 lists four aspects of research, respectively: current situation of GTC teachers in Beijing, reorganization of GTC, the situation and demand of professional development, and the technological literacy level of teachers. A cluster analysis is conducted to split the sampled teachers into four levels from high to low in reference to the technological literacy questionnaire, and the triangle of GTC teacher's technological literacy is drawn to describe the four levels of technological competence.Chapter 5 concludes that the proportion of part-time job teachers in Beijing is too high, that there is a strong demand for practical training, that the overall level of technological literacy of teachers is not optimistic, and that the level of technological literacy is affected by age bracket. Meanwhile, this chapter also proposes five suggestions regarding the professional development of GTC teachers.Chapter 6 points out some inadequacies of this study and casts the future direction of related researches.
