Primary English teaching syllabus points out:'Interest is a good teacher for pupils to learn a foreign language. And it's an important task for primary school English teachers to arouse students' interest at present.'Oral reading is a complex process in which the reader becomes the'link'between the author and the listeners by comprehending the selection and interpreting it for the enjoyment and understanding of those listening.Oral reading in English teaching is one of the effective ways which are suitable for the development of children's physiological and psychological characteristics and can foster their interest and generate their thirst for knowledge. In the course of oral reading,children take an active part in the games with great interest, enjoy the pleasure and happiness of learning and have a sense of achievement.This thesis is divided into six parts:The first chapter introduces the present situation of primary school English teaching in China and the existing problems. In order to arouse students'interests in English, more and more teachers use oral reading in teaching.The second chapter discusses the characteristics of children's learning and the differences between children and adults in learn a foreign language. So it is important to treat children as human beings, and it is a good way to motivate them to learn English with oral reading practices.The third chapter introduces oral reading teaching from four aspects, the definition of oral reading , the reasons for using oral reading , when and how to use the method of oral reading ,and give a list of different types of teaching oral reading .The fourth chapter presents some effective analysis of the data and strategies on oral reading and provides some advice on how to organize oral reading practice .The sixth chapter is summary .It emphasizes the importance of oral reading as a pedagogical tool both in primary English teaching and in the overall development of children. In a word, oral reading is one of the useful activities which are very popular with children of all grades in primary school. If an English teacher can play oral reading in the course of English teaching,children's enthusiasm will be aroused,classroom's atmosphere will be stimulated and teaching effectiveness will be greatly enhanced, at the same time, children will develop very well, physically and physiologically.
