| Games and education have enjoyed a long history together. Hide quoted text -educators and parents have long been ambivalent about game using and its role in education and few take a neutral stance. Proponents see games in education as the means of creating engaging and experiential learning experiences for students whereas opponents see games as a mere diversion and a waste of precious school time.The advent of high-end sophisticated gaming had been developing over the past 5-10 years Gamers devote immense intensity, commitment, passion, and time to games. In such new environment, it is necessary for us to study and use game resources to service education.In view of the sophistication of game technology, this thesis explores the former problem—learning in playing games and playing games as learning. The main part of this thesis is to study how to apply games to the education in primary and secondary schools so as to construct a new learning mode: learning style of gaming. This mode may challenge the strict and conservative educational tradition.The structure of this paper is as the following:Chapter one is an introduction. It puts forward the problem in this paper, defines several notions and introduces the literature and the research methods. Chapter Two analyzes games and the spirits in them. There are many learning properties in them. Chapter Three analyzes the relations between games and learning. They have some similarities in advancing man's development. In Chapter Four, the author analyzes the data in a questionnaire and finds that Chinese students in primary and secondary schools lack the elements of games and game spirit in study. Chapter Five suggests some strategies to solve this problem, constructing a new learning mode --- learning style of gaming to reform the tradition one in the web environment. |
