The middle school stage is very important for the individual in the transformation from childhood to adolescence. Youngsters in this stage have many physiological and psychological changes, and so do the relationship between them and their parents. This research investigates the parent-child relationship of rural middle school students with the method of combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. Survey results show that the general status of rural middle school students'parent-child relationship is good. Children and their parents contact frequently. Children feel good about the relationship between them and their parents. However, parent-child conflicts are common. And the deep talking between children and their parents is not too much. The relationship between middle school students and mothers is better than it between students and fathers. And rural parents love boys and their younger children more. Middle school students are optimistic in their parent-child relationship. They wish it would be better by doing some efforts.This survey research also analyzes the factors of rural middle school students'parent-child relationship. It shows that the factors are different between mother-child relationship from father-child relationship. Child likes their parents'rearing styles or not is one of the key factors. In addition, only child or not, knowing their child or not, being strict to their child or not are the main factors to mother-child relationship. Peer group is a main factor to father-child relationship.Based on the above findings, the paper analyzes the differences between rural junior high school parent-child relationship and the urban parent-child relationship, and the differences between this investigation and other rural parent-child relationship studies. It also discusses the reasons that why there are different between mother-child relationship and father-child relationship. At the end, it gives some advices about how to make rural middle school students'parent-child relationship much better.
