| As an effective teaching method, Questioning has been highly valued and widely applied by educationists at home and abroad since ancient times. Not only Confucius in the Spring and Autumn Period, but predecessors in the west regarded questioning as an important way of imparting knowledge. Questioning is an important part for classroom teaching, a way for the teachers to input, to deliver and to share information with the students, hence the purpose of communication. Effective questioning sessions in classroom can encourage students to give relative and complete answers. It can activate students'thought, develop their recognition and organize the class as well. Good questioning can induce students' rich language output, involve students in classroom activities, and promote interactions between students and teachers in the target language. English classroom should become a field of activity including language knowledge acquisition, development of students'overall cognitive abilities and promotion of their personalities (emotion,attitude,values etc.).The main aims of the new curriculum are defined as students'development being the basic starting point, so students'language abilities are mainly cultivated and the task-teaching is advocated. We English teachers should use questioning to impart knowledge and cultivate students'abilities. How to incorporate dialogues and classroom questioning, utilize the idea of dialogue to improve classroom questioning, project teacher-student communication effect of classroom questioning, and combine theory with practice by observing has become major concerns of the paper, which focuses on the teachers' questioning activity in junior high schools' classroom teaching, target of the research, and the teaching of sixteen English teachers in the city of Changchun as the sampling. Through the two-year observations and interviews as well as the questionaire, I analyzed the problems existing in teachers' questioning activities in the classrooms of junior high schools, and further explored the strategies and skills teachers should adopt in order to locate the effective techniques which may optimize the English questioning activities and improve the questioning of classroom teaching. We teachers should study all our lives. We should improve our own teaching skills, teaching strategies and teaching capacities constantly, especially classroom communication skills which are fundamental for the teaching profession. |
