Biology is a natural science based on experiments. Biology, as a knowledge system made up of a large number of biological facts and theories, is gradually developed through people's constant exploration of the world. Exploring the world is one of the effective methods for students to understand life and learn biology curriculum .To develop students' ability of exploring the world in senior middle school is one of the important goals of biology curriculum. During the period of exploration, students can develop their ability of observing, summarizing, and finding out the problems. At the same time, they can form and improve the ability of designing experiments, doing research, and carrying out experiments. And their ability to collect and analyze data will be improved as well as their communication ability.Developing students' design capabilities of biological experiments is an important target in middle school biology "curriculum standards" .The main purpose of middle school students' biology experiment design is not to get the conclusion of a specific scientific field. It is more important to learn the experimental design methods, and stimulate students' interest in the biological study and train the students' abilities to ask questions, analyze problems and solve problems as well as their creativity. The author get to know that the students are weak in designing their biology experiments by means of a questionnaire survey and tests. But that is emphasized in the new biology curriculum standards. Therefore, it is urgent to improve their biological experiments design capabilities which will comply with the request of time.The author does some research on how to improve students' experimental designing ability, using classroom teaching as the carrier and the experimental methods of education. To achieve this, the following strategies are used to improve their experimental designing ability: using the exploratory experiments and experimental validation of teaching in the textbook to enhance students' independent inquiry ability; using the research topics in the textbook for extracurricular counseling to develop students' practical abilities; using the scientific discoveries history and other classic experiments in the textbooks as materials to help students to think scientifically; using the test exercises of experimental designs to train students' skills and the adaptation of clever methods to solve problems.After a year of experiment, the results of the teaching effect show that there is a big difference between the class which adopts the strategies mentioned above and the class that doesn't receive the strategies training. This shows clearly that it's practical to use the strategies to improve students' experimental designing ability.
