Inner Mongolia is located in a remote area. The economy and culture are fall behind comparatively. Although the chemistry contest of senior high school students has been developed for many years, the result is still inappreciable comparing to other provinces. It needs to be further refined and improved. 12 schools from 4 cities (Hohhot, Baotou, Ordos, Linhe) which are located in the Midwest Inner Mongolia have been choosen to conduct a survey in order to know more about the present situation of Inner Mongolia chemistry contest of senior high school students, make it develop in a more positive and healthy way and improve the quality of education in Inner Mongolia. There are two editions of the survey: students'edition and teachers'edition, which explore the reasons of Midwest Inner Mongolia chemistry contest of senior high school students actualities from three aspects that are high school,chemistry teacher,high school student. At the same time, the analyses of 2001 to 2007 Preliminary test questions and Semi-finals test questions are carried out from 8 perspectives that are knowledge points of the test question,chemical knowledge points of high school,knowledge points of outline in preliminary contest paper,STS of exam paper,characteristic of exam paper,checking of students,connection of new teaching materials of Peoples Education Press and connection of new teaching materials of Shandong Technology Press. Through the survey, it is found that are two features of high school students joining in the chemistry contest and getting prizes, discrepancy of area and centralized tendency of schools. The chemistry teachers of Midwest Inner Mongolia have taken some action in the after school activity which are mainly about the assistomce of chemistry contest. Their teaching idea and level are improved gradually. As one of the effective complementary way of the classroom teaching, chemistry contest draws a lot of attention and are popular in most high school of Midwest Inner Mongolia. However, the spreading step of Midwest Inner Mongolia chemistry contest still remain in a low level. It needs to be further improved and strengthened. There are still some deficiencies in the whole process from promotion of the contest and assistomce of the contest to chemistry teacher. The overall teachers contingent need to be improved. High school in the specific process of contest needs to further improved and strengthened. Through the analysis of test questions, it is found that STS test question increases and decreases in each year and the proportion of STS test questions are in Preliminary higher than in Semi-finals overall; the proportion of opened question is higher than other types of questions in Preliminary and Semi-finals contest, creative questions in the second position and the proportion is stability; Preliminary test questions focus on checking students' comprehensive capacity, but Semi-finals questions focus on students'encyclopedical knowledge; there are difference and common points in the connection of two new teaching materials edition and Preliminary and Semi-finals test questions.In response to these conclusions, the chemistry contest player of Inner Mongolia should have a good quality, solid basic knowledge and five indispensable ability. The training of the contest can adopt two organizations that are interests mode and"autonomous learning"mode , two kinds of content arrangements that are two-stage form and two-synchronous form, three kinds of contest teaching modes that are self-regulated learning to questions teaching mode,cooperative learning to participant teaching mode,inquiring learning to interactive teaching mode, four kinds of typical solving problem methods that are advancing step by step,model reasoning,analog analysis,progress and regress. Then it is pointed out that contest training time must be compatable with normal teaching time, it is necessary to establish a motivated system for the students and make good use of learning evaluation functions. Finally, it is pointed out the relationship between the chemistry contest of senior high school students and the reform of the new curricula. Under the background of the reform of the new curricula, Chemistry contest is helpful to improve students'scientific quality, change students'learning method and cultivate students'innovative capacity. Chemistry contest is good for chemistry teacher to update and change the viewpoints of teaching, consolidate and develop professional knowledge, advance and improve consciousness of curriculum resources, remodel and sublime speciality spirit. There are some consistency between chemistry contest and the reform of the new curricula in the perspective of opinions, aims and tendency of development.
