Research On Stressors Of Minority Undergraduates Of Southwest China And Its Relationship With Coping Styles And Ethnic Identity

Recently,there are more and more researches about the stressors and coping styles of the undergraduates.In these studies,the minority and cultural backgrouds are important.And the minorities can explained the stressor diffriently based on their own cultural backgroud.Ethnic identity carries great significance for multi-ethnic nations in that it influences individuals'mental health and personality development,and the local and natioanl stability as well.In the areas of minority,it always resulted some problems because of the ethnic identity.These studies all invested that there were many stressors the undergraduates of minority must be faced in.Now,though it is more and more important about the study of stressors and coping styles,the research on the minority undergraduates is less.It becauses that there has not tools about stressors of minority undergaraduates,the other reason is that there is short of attention on them.Based on literature review,open-ended questionnaire and individual interviews,the study puts forward a theoretical hypothesis about stressors of minority undergruaduates.Then the author designs the preliminary questionnaire of stressors of minority undergruaduates,and forms the formal questionnaire after modification.The study have investigated 800 college students in 4 cities such as Chongqing,Chengdu,Guangxi and Yunan with the questionnaire,and analyses the effect of grade,gender and minority to explore characteristics of stressors of minority undergraduates,then the correlation of stressors of minority undergraduates and coping styles,ethnic identity was also investigated.The results of this study are as follows:(1)The self-made Questionnaire of stressors of minority undergraduates is of high reliability and fair validity,thus it can be used as a measure of stressors of minority undergraduates.Tt revealed that are six dimensions:future,intercommunication,school work,economy,custom and encounter.(2) There is a significant gender difference on the whole stressors and on the intercommunication, custom and encounter.Male students are significantly higher than female students all on the whole stressors,intercommunication, custom and encounter.(3)There is a significant difference on the whole stressors and on the all dimension but school wouk betweem college students who are in the different states.(4)There is a significant minority difference on the whole stressors.And on the futuer, intercommunication,economy and school work. There is no significant difference on the custom and enconter.(5)On the dimension of custom,there are significant interaction among gender,grade and minority.
