At present, national identity is becoming a hot topic in multinational state, which isalso one of the core content in national sociology. After entering the nationaluniversities,ethnic minority students must adapt the university life as well as the fusionand the collision of different national culture and the customs under the mainstreamcultural background, they are easy to produce some problems of national identity. Asthe important psychological characteristic of ethnic minority students, the nationalidentity not only affects their study life, their psychological health, and theirdevelopment, but also affects the realization of the aims of school education. Thereforeit is essential for us to do some researches and analysis on the present situation ofethnic minority students’ national identity, to find out the existing problems andpropose some solutions.Based on the extensive reference of previous researches, an empirical research willbe made on the ethnic minority students’ national identity in this article. Detailed localinformation on the ethnic minority students’ national identity has been got through theways such as comprehensive questionnaires, interviews, documents and so on. Basedon the pooled analysis of information collected, ethnic minority students’ nationalidentity is analyzed from four dimensions-cognition, emotion, attitude and behavior, arough understanding of their national identity can be reached, which includes thefollowings: First, the attitude status of ethnic minority students’ national identity is thebest, followed by cognitive status and emotion status, and the behavior status is theworst; Second, ethnic minority students’ national identity is in a positive status both oftheir own nationality and of Chinese Nation, and the latter is better than the former;Third, the national identity of different ethnic minority students varies from each other;and its dimensions and factors are also different from each other.To describe the influence factors of ethnic minority students’ national identity, aanalysis is made from the five aspects: traditional custom, ethnic identity, acculturation,ethnic exchange, public areas and national policy, through which it is found thatnational identity involves national sentiment and rational thinking, that bears the comprehensive influence of originality and instrumental, showing the feature of strataand flexibility.Finally, several recommendations are made on how to solve the problems of ethnicminority students in the national identity. The role of cognition and behavior should bepaid attention to, in order to improve ethnic minority students’ national identity;meanwhile great attention also should be paid to interactive communication of ethnicminority students, and correctly handle conflicts caused by national identity. These areto build adhesive identity between Chinese Nation identity and the own nationality ofethnic minority students and make it become one of the driving forces for their healthydevelopment.
