| With development of the cognition theory and the psycholinguistics, a study of the English writing as the second language are changing from appraising students'completed manuscripts to exploring the writing process. The transformation from the product approach to the process approach has changed the traditional ideas of the writing teaching. The feedback of compositions is no longer the last step of the writing teaching, but it is involved in the whole writing process and has become an essentially and extremely important part. How to play the role of the feedback of compositions and raise students' writing level is the extreme concern for the teachers of English in the middle school.This research based on the question survey and interview has carried on the preliminary examination of the present situation and the problems of the ways of assessment comments for the English writing of the junior middle school. The English writing comments under the instruction of the process approach mainly includes the following four forms: 1) peer feedback 2) self-assessment 3) group assessment 4) teacher assessment.This article has been carried on primarily by questionnaire survey and auxiliarily by interview. 356 students in the junior two of a Foreign Language School subordinated by province where I'm teaching, the results are as follows:1) The problems existed in the peer feedback : Some students have not grasped the operating procedure of peer feedback, also the students'level is different, the students who are poor in English think that they are unable to revise the companion's manuscript; Some students feel nervous and under great pressure while giving assessment to their parteners; Majority of the students are unwilling to accept parteners'assessment and they hope to be corrected by their teachers. 2) The problems existed in self-assessment: Lack of instructions on the writing skills and the basic language knowledge and lack of self-confidence result in bad effect of self-revising. 3) The problems existed in the group assessment: a few students' cooperation floats to the surface; student's participation is imbalanced; the students'role isn't played well enough; some students do not like the activities of the group assessment, which make the discussion and the appraisal a mere formality.4) The problems existed in the teacher assessment: The way of denial feedback is in the majority; Most of the comments are about students'mistakes, such as corrections of spelling, grammar, structures and so on; it's common that comments of praise on writing are made superficially; Most of the students'compositons are only marked or graded while extremely few are given thorough comments.Based on the investigation, this article proposes suggestions on the problems of comments on English process writing teaching: 1) Improve the appraisal list of self - assessment and group assessment; 2) The teacher participates in the group discussion at the right moment 3) The teacher regularly gives comments and summary on self-assessment and group assessment; 4) Display the contents and results of the group or peer feedback ; 5) Establish the archives for students'wring achievement; 6) Unify written comments with face- to–face conference; 7) The teachers'evaluation should be primarily formative appraisal and synthesis grade should be replaced by sub-item grade. |
