Nowadays, many scholars concern more about the passive change of Chinese education after the Opium War, neglecting its internal reform much longer before the Opium War, which typically shown as the effect enlightening thoughts made on the renovation of Chinese education. Chenque, Fang Yizhi, Fushan, Huang Zongxi, Wang Fuzhi, Yanyuan and Ligong, the representative of the practical science school in Ming and Qing Dynasty, had realized that the empty talk disbennifit country, and insisted statecraft ideology, objected neo-confucianism, tried to reform Chinese educational tradition. In which, Yanyuan was the typical. ZhangNan Academy who charged became a bridge between Chinese and western civil. Wang Mu Grass Hall, Kang Youwei charged, and Current Affairs school holded by LiangQichao in Reform Movement, Hangzhou Seeking Truth Academy and Hubei Two-lakes Academy during the academy reform in the end of Qing dynasty, all be influenced by ZhangNan Academy. We can say that ZhangNan Academy was the rudiment of Chinese new education, the origin of our modern education. It is nourishing our modern education with its practical science spirit. It is just the existence of ZhangNan Academy that China's education be a complete chain, and powerfuly proved that the change of Chinese education was not a copy from western model. So it is significant theoretically to study Yanyuan's thoughts on academy teaching reform. Meanwhile, the matured teaching reform thoughts in practice does much effect on our teaching reform.The paper was divided into six parts:The first part, Introduction. The research reason and significance were discussed, also the review of research state, the research feature and methods, research difficulty and important point. The second part, the main contents of teaching reform thoughts of Yanyuan academy. Mainly disscussed what is Yanyuan's academy teaching reform thoughts. The writer disscussed the contents from five aspects: the critique to traditional teaching value orientation, the transformation of cultivating aims, the revonation of teaching content, the renovation of teaching methods, the new teaching system and administration.The third part, the historical cause to Yanyuan's academy teaching reform thoughts. The writer mainly analysed the cause to Yanyuan's academy teaching reform thoughts. The cause of it relates to its politics and economics, the social culture and scholar vogue, relate more to his teaching practice.The fourth part, the basic feature of Yanyuan's academy teaching reform thoughts. Based on generalization of its contents, the writer concluded several features as follows: the duality and effectiveness of teaching aims; pragmatism and innovativeness of teaching contents; practicality and openess of teaching methods.The fifth part,the comment on Yanyuan's academy teaching reform thoughts. It mianly solved the "how"problem, that is how to treat Yanyuan's academy teaching reform thoughts properly in the background of new curriculum reform, then make use the good and dispose the bad to serve nowadays teaching reform. The writer analysed the historical value of Yanyuan's academy teaching reform thoughts, and come to the reality, put forwards suggestion that it would provide our teaching reform a beneficial reference to study Yanyuan's academy teaching reform thoughts.The third part,the end. Made a introspection to the study and concluded the gains and shortages to advance the further study direction in the future.
