A Study On Primary School Students' English Learning Interest In The Structure, Status And Its Influential Factors

In recent years, as the International exchanges increasing, English as a tool of communication tool has being importantly recognized, English learning also went to the classroom of primary school. According to the《English Curriculum Criterion》that the National Ministry of Education recensed promulgated in 2002, children started to learning English from grate three in most of the city and coutry school in China.Worrying is that of the current survey shows that pupils' interest in the learning of English is not optimistic in china, so the questions which we should try to solve are how to estimate their learning interest in English? What are the status and influential factors on their English learning interest?This study analyzed on the basis of literature, through interviews, questionnaire research methods and project analysis, factor analysis of the statistical methodology developed with high reliability and validity of the questionnaire. We concluded the influential factors through literature analysis, interviews, open-ended questionnaire, and the case study method. Then good measuring tool for students learning English on the status of interest. Finally use of relevant research, regression analysis and structural equation modeling techniques, to find the major factors which affected students' intereste in learning English, to verify the influential factors which has been researched before, and try to give recommendations on inspiring pupils' intereste in learning English. Based on each research, the main conclusions are as follows:1. Students interested in learning English is a first-order structure of the five factors, namely, function awareness, excitement, devotion, additional study and application of knowledge.2. Self-designed scale of pupils' interest in learning English is qualified by fine reliability and validity, it is in line with the requirements of psychological measurement and can be used as a tools to measure primary school students' intereste in learning English.3. Pupils' interest in learning English is not optimistic on the overall situation. In the investigation about half of the children has keen interest, nearly 2 / 5 children at the middle level, nearly 1/10 children are lack of interest in learning English; The five factors of Pupils' intereste in learning English developed unevenly, and there are significant differences, functional understanding of the highest level, expand knowledge of the lowest level.4. There was significant difference in terms of gender, grade, school type and age began to learn English; female students was significantly higher than that of boys; pupils' interest in learning English declined when they was in higher grades, the fourth grade is the crucial period that the interest declined from there; students in the city has significantly higher learning interest than that of rural students; children began to learning English before seven and later than ten years has significantly higher learning interest than those whom began to learning English at 8 to 9year-old.5. Boys and girls in grade three have higher learning interest and using English more than children in grade five and grade six; boys start to learn English at six or seven years old are more interested in English tan boys start to learn English at eight or nine years old, girs start to learn English before five, at six or seven years old, after ten years old are more interested in English than girls start to learn at eight or nine years old, they also more devoted in English and using English more.6. Among the eight influential factors, teaching methods has the most impact on pupils' English learning and attribution trend has the lest impact, the influence from more to less ranks as: the teaching method; teacher attitudes; parents encourage; school atmosphere; pressure on learning; objectively support of family; personal capacity; attribution, and each of the eight factors have a direct impact on pupils' interest in English learning.7. We suggest teachers use multimedia perfectly and arrange teaching activities artifully in class; we also advice teachers and parents encouraging and praising children more to inspire their learning interest.
