Study On The Knight Sports During The Middle Ages Of Western Europe

The knight was the stratum that had an important position and influences during the Middle Ages period of Western Europe. The knight sports were some athletic activities that knight stratum played with strong martial characteristics, including the physical education of the knight ,the knight tournament, and other athletic items that knight usually played , for example ,horsemanship, fencing, paddle boat, polo, tennis etc..In this dissertation, the author takes a history view of the dialectical materialism ,and analyzes and studies the existing form , development, characteristics, condition, cause and meaning about the knight sports under the social background of Christianity asceticism and the body crime theory. The author want to research the knight sports objective, dialectical, based on the methods of literatures and expert consultanting , so contributing to the academic research of the sports history.The dissertation mainly has four chapters .The first chapter gives a chief description and introduction about the Middle Ages of western Europe .The second chapter pays importance on studying the physical education and tournament of the knight . The author analyzes the existing cause of the knight sports, and its meaning, function during the social background of the Middle Ages in the third chapter. At last ,the chapter makes a research on the inheritance and development of the knight sports .At the same time ,the author also discusses and studies the knight sports'important influences on Coubertin's thoughts and ideas about modern Olympic movement .Through the research and study, the author make a conclusion .The knight sports has the characteristics, such as military, religion etc.; and its existence and development was mainly because the need of war , religion , seigniors and so on .The knight sports enriched the public's culture life, aroused the farmers and citizenry'sports activities. Objectively, it did against the Catholic theology that oppressed the human body and heart at that time .Many items that knight played were the origin of modern sports items .The knight sports had an important influence on the modern physical education and sports .furthermore, it also influenced Coubertin's Olympic thoughts and ideas.
