The Investigation On College Teacher's Role Expectation Of Students

From of old, the teachers have been given the social role of passing intellectual, delivering the civilization and cultivating the competent. Now, teachers, esp. the college teachers who are given very high role expectation , We consider that the college teachers are not only the students'good examples, but also the civil model. However, the relevant study on the college teachers'role expectation from the college students is never reported before. The author thinks that the investigation for the teachers'role expectation from the college students will be helpful for the college teachers to know their students'self expectation, it can help the college teachers to improve their images in their students'mind, so as to elevate these two aims: the teachers'quality and teaching effects.This study establishes a 62-item role expectation fore-questionnaire for the college teachers by means of referring the literature, interview and open questionnaire and so on. Using this questionnaire to pretest, then analyze the data, and delete 10 unnecessary items. Later, use the exploratory factor analysis method to extract out 8 factors, they are instruction learning, scientific research developing, being good examples, teaching attitude, scientific level, care for students, moral education and teaching method. I delete 7 unnecessary items in the process of factor extraction, and finally work out the formal questionnaire with 45 items. Then I use this questionnaire to test 567 college students from four universities in Inner Mongolia. Using the bisection coefficient, Cranach's Alpha coefficient to check out the reliability of the questionnaire, the result meets the requirement of the psychometrics. The study analyzes the difference of the college students'data from the following aspects: gender, major, college category and the grade. The result includes:(1)female students'scores are higher than the scores of male students in the factor of general score, guiding learning, being good example, teaching attitude and care for students ;(2)liberal arts students'scores are higher than the scores of science students in both teaching method and care for students. Non-normal students'scores are obviously higher than the normal students in guiding learning and moral education;(3)the freshmen'scores are higher than the scores of sophomores and the juniors .In general scale, guiding learning and moral education the freshmen'scores are higher than the scores of sophomores. In guiding learning , scientific research developing and being good examples the freshmen'scores are higher than the scores of the juniors. Finally, the study is analyzed with the multiple-regression analysis, the data shows that the 8 factors of college students'expectation for teachers are arranged from high importance to low, they are guiding learning, scientific research development, teaching attitude, care for students, being good examples, teaching method, research level and moral education.
