A Study On College Teacher’s Role Expectation Of Students

Since ancient times, teachers have been given the very sacred mission,they are known as the disseminators of human civilization. Although the recognition about the importance of teachers is not beyond doubt, the expectation about teacher is various in different periods, different countries, different regions and even the same area, and the content of the expectation is not static, but is in a process of change. Understanding the teacher’s role of expectation can make teacher self reflection,to improve every aspect of quality. And,students are the main body of teaching activities. Students-as a thought and emotion of individual, especially college students-will have on their own development as well as the teacher role expectations through the influence of extensive contact with the surrounding environment and is affected by the personal emotion, personality, interests, values, world view in learning and life.These desired level determines their learning motivation and enthusiasm for learning. When the role of the teacher in accord with students’ expectations, he will set up a good image in the minds of students,students can feel a heartfelt admiration to accept the education of teachers, education activities can have a definite object in view and receive better effect.Our survey concerns the college teacher’s role expectation of students using consultation,question and interview based on materials at hand.First of all, read a large number of relevant literature to understand the the historical development and current situation about this survey and to find the theoretical basis of this study.The questionnaire has 24 questions and include four aspects.These is teacher’s comprehensive quality,the relationship between teachers and students,the teaching ability,guidance and assessment.This study selected 440 college students.After analysis the data of the survey,the results are as follows.1. Students expect teachers should have higher education and the favorite teacher is humor and amiable.Students expect teachers should have high moral quality and innovative,but they told the teacher scientific research ability requirement is not high.2. Students expect to establish equality cooperation relationship with the teacher. Students expect the teacher to care and respect for them.They hope teacher can treat each one fairly.3. Student think the teacher should take more instances in teaching,but the reality and expectation are not the same. Students expect to learn the correct way of thinking in problem analysis and expect teachers use a variety of teaching methods.In addition,students consider the use of multi-media should be reasonable and appropriate.4. Students are not very satisfactory on the current assessment methods and expect teachers to use the flexible assessment methods,such as experimental or research project. Students expect the test can detect their development level and the progress and the lack of learning of their own. Students expect teachers to guide their how to use effective ways to acquire the information.
