The social support for poor college students is an important part to construct Chinese social security system, it also a focus of contemporary society. In this paper, based on the theory and method of sociology, the author firstly analyzed the social support and the problem of poor students, expound the role of social support and the actual state of poor college students. Then, based on the theory of social support, by means of interview with students and questionnaires, the author analyzed the interaction relationship between the social support and the poor students. The analyses mainly include the elements of and actual state of social support for poor college students; poor student's expectation for social support and social support's influence on poor students. Through the instances of interviews and questionnairs, the author demonstrate the serious lack of social support networks, and the lack of support system had done double harmful influences on poor students on both material and spiritual. Finally the author gave some general suggestions about the lack of social support networks, these suggestions mainly include: expands the main member of social support networks; extends the method of social support; implement relative polices about poor students properly and enhance the poor student's self support.In this paper, the interviews and questionnaires are based on the principle of systematic and objective. The person interviewed mainly include poor students, family members, the person relative in school, neighbors, the person relative in government, experts, etc. The poor students interviewed are mainly in the area of Nanjing and the questionnaires are analyzed by using SPSS which is a software used for statistics. The main items of questionnaires are: the material state of poor students; the spiritual state of poor students; the state of poor student's attitude to support; the state of social support to poor students; and the influence from the lack of social support, etc.
