On The Aesthetic Education Function Of Susanne. K. Langer's Artistic Symbol Concept

Susanne. K. Langer has been the only outstanding female aesthetician in western history of aesthetics. Her unique idea that art is the creation of the human emotion's symbolic form constitutes a new aesthetic symbolism.Langer holds the idea that art is a symbolic form which is created by artists to express human emotions. Art is not only a form of emotion expressing, but also a form of life expressing. Thus , the ultimate aim of art is to express human emotions.Aesthetic education is a kind of perceptual education, so more importance should be attached to emotion education in the course of aesthetic education in order that students benefit in their emotional development in various artistic activities. And it is of great importance for them to develop the right views of life, value and love.This paper has explained the concept of Langer's artistic symbol, her aesthetic ideology of artistic symbol concept, the aesthetic education function of her artistic symbol concept and so on .Combining many years of the teaching experiences , the author has made an overall research on how to imply Langer's aesthetic education function of artistic symbol concept to campus artistic activities.
