Self-concept formed by interaction between individual and environment (especially others), is not only a vital aspect of child sociality development, but also the center of child personality development .It is influenced by many factors. Rearing and educating patterns of parents is one of the important factors. The study aims at probing into the characteristics of self-concept of rural pupils and its relationship to the parents'Rearing and Educating patterns.The present study, A sample of 180 rural pupils was tested by the Piers-Harris Children's Self-concept Scale and the EMBU. According to the survey and interview,the article summarized three preliminary conclusions :Grade difference and gender difference are both affect the self-concept development of rural pupils, pupils' self-concept growth downward trend with age,and sixth-grade students is at the level of development of self-concept; in primary schools of rural areas girls perform better: reliance, fewer behavioral problems, thoughtful, caring parents, but more emotional problems.Grade difference and gender difference are both effect the parental rearing pattern,the "Emotional warmth and understanding " positive dimension and the "Severely punished" negative dimensions show that; in rural areas there still exists son preference, the educating of fathers is at the two extremes of doting and violence,mothers take care of girls more than fathers,rural boys in parenting dimensions of the positive and negative dimensions are higher than rural girls.Parental rearing pattern is an important factor which affect the self-concept development of rural pupils.Parental warmth and understanding proportional to the self-concept of pupils,parents' refuse to be denied,excessive protection, severe punishment, inversely proportional to the self-concept of pupils; parental warmth and understanding is very important andpositive, and mothers have more special effects.
