As one of the basic Adult Learning Theories, Self-Directed learning Theory can bring lots of benefit to the training activities of China's enterprises. Problems such as low ROI (Return-on-investment), unsuitable outcome, length and range of training can be solved by appropriately applying Self-directed learning theory.The author follows a consistent research pattern of Positivism and tries to explore common principles which can tell how to implement self-directed learning at workplace, and collects and analyses materials on the basis of grounded theory methodology to summarize the final frame. The details of the research process are as follows:This thesis has three research aims: Building the self-directed learning system on an aspect of an enterprise; Building a factors model of implementing self-directed learning systems at the workplace using learning theory; restructuring the operational model of developing self-directed learning for training managers.There are both commonalities and differences among these three outcomes. The first difference is that they stand on different points, as demonstrated above. The second difference is thinking levels. The system is at the level between microcosmic and medium. The factors model is a middle level model, while the operation model is microcosmical model. The factors model shows variables and the relationship between factors or variables whilst implementing the self-directed learning in the workplace. The operation model solves problems related to execution. And the final system reveals the outcome. This system is a hypothesis about what a self-directed learning system should include.This thesis will fill in the void self-directed learning application research into the workplace in China. The results of this study are beneficial to both end users and researchers in this field.This thesis aims to boost applied research of Self-Directed Learning. At the same time, the basic theories in the Self-Directed Learning field which is comprehensively summarized can not only set up the base of this thesis, but also can be learned and understood and applied by future researchers and present users.
