Cultivating creative talents is the demand of the development of modern society and educational reform in our country, which is a mission of history as well. TAO Xingzhi was one of the earliest educationists who advocated creative education in China. This research on his idea of creative education will provide some highlights and implications for the quality-oriented educational reform which centers on cultivating students'creativity.The author briefly reviews TAO Xingzhi's life and education activities, analyzes the source of his idea of creative education from the perspective of the social and era background, and takes great emphasis on the idea of TAO Xingzhi's creative education. The aim of TAO Xingzhi's creative education is to cultivate true, good and beautiful people. The conditions of implementing creative education rest with the facts of educational democracy, hand and brain working together, strengthening fundamental knowledge. The way and method of carrying out creative education is discussed in terms of"six liberations"of children's creativity,"three needs"and teachers'quality. The author also tries to analyze the reasons why TAO Xingzhi's idea of creative education couldn't be carried out successfully at that time from the perspective of political, economic and theoretical reasons.On the basis of the above analysis, with an eye on contemporary educational reform, the author summarizes the implications of TAO Xingzhi's idea of creative education on current creative education, the conditions, way and method of its implementation and teachers'role in implementing creative education.
